Description
Mary Mendla is a painter, fiber artist and art instructor with a studio in Thiensville, Wisconsin. Her abstract paintings in oil, cold wax, and mixed media are intuitive renditions of nature and the landscape created with an ethereal quality.
Growing up surrounded by the forests, lakes, and rivers in Wisconsin formed a passion for wild places that is carried into Mary’s paintings. The wonder and mystery encountered playing in forested chasms along Lake Michigan during her childhood is brought into each painting through abstraction. Mary challenges the viewer to see beyond the obvious, as she says, “with quiet eyes”, as an opening to a deeper experience with her art.
Mary earned a Bachelor of Fine Ars degree at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in 1992, specializing in Painting and Drawing. She has created a varied career in fine art and business, including painting in oil and mixed media, teaching classes and workshops, and a fine art apparel line called Facets Fashions. Her latest venture is the creation of an online artist’s community called CreativeJourneys.us.
Mary will be demonstrating her painting at the CCC:
Wednesdays, February 1, 8, 15, 22: 1-5pm
Friday, February 24: 10 am-2 pm
