Description
Charles Porteus (1867 - 1943) was most recognized for his work as a wax figure modeler and scene painter for historical group displays at the Milwaukee Public Museum from 1919 to 1940. However, it is in this exhibition that the Cedarburg Art Museum will display a series of Charles’ oil and tempera paintings depicting idyllic local landscapes, urban Milwaukee scenes, and portraits of Native Americans he met during his travels or inspired by museum dioramas.
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 26 from 5 to 7pm.
This exhibition is made possible by the generosity of Porteus’ descendants and his granddaughter-in-law, Bonnie Porteus’ devotion to the establishment of his legacy as a true artist.
