1776 to 2026: It’s the semiquincentennial of the formation of the United States after its Declaration of Independence. Wisconsin artists are challenged to interpret our country’s history and culture through the Wisconsin lens.
Our state and its art have a unique place in America’s 250-year history, even though Wisconsin was not declared a state till 1848. After centuries of Indigenous art, explorers and immigrants all played a role in the state’s artistic evolution.
How will you interpret our state’s unique social, cultural, historical, or political environment in any of its historical periods or present day?
